Storytime Programs

All storytime programs are held in the Library Storyroom. Please try to arrive on time.  Please call 336-883-3666 for more information.

BOOKWORMS STORYTIME -- for 12-23 months – Tuesdays at 10:00 – June 18, 25  July 9, 16, 23, 30
TIME 4 TWOS STORYTIME

    Craft Programs

    Upcoming Craft Programs

    Crafts for Younger Kids (ages 4-8)
    Fridays – June 21, July 12, July 26 at 3:00 in the storyroom. Registration is required.

    Crafts for Older Kids (ages 9 and up)
    Fridays June 28, July 19, August 2 at 3:00 in the storyroom. Registration is required.

    Tie Dye at the High Point Historical Museum Friday July 5th from 11:00 – 1:00. Bring something to tie dye.


    Special Programs

    Occasionally we have musicians, animal shows, acrobats, jugglers, magicians, storytellers etc. come to the library for a special show. Or we might offer a holiday program, a carnival, bingo or some other fun event for kids.  Our summer programs will begin on June 10th. You can register for programs that require registration starting on June 10th.

    Magic Tree House Club -  for kids in K-5 grade – crafts and fun revolving around the Magic Tree House book series – Wednesday June 12, 19 & 26 @  11:00 am in the Storyroom.

    Sign Language Storytime – a special program for school age children using American Sign Language. Tuesdays at 3:00 – June 18, 25  July 9, 16, 23, 30 – registration is required.

    Scrapbooking for Kids – a program for school age children. They will learn the different techniques and work on creating their own scrapbooks. We provide the scrapbooks and you provide the pictures to put in them. Wednesdays at 4:00 -- June 19, 26  July 10, 17, 24, 3. Registration is required.

    Growing up in the Animal World -- Meet a variety of live animals and learn about the changes they go through as they grow. For ages 4 and up. Wednesday July 10th at 11:00. Registration required. Program presented by the North Carolina Museum of Natural Science.

    Dinosaur Discovery -- Explore the awe-inspiring world of dinosaurs. Learn about their habits and lifestyles while comparing live animals to these prehistoric wonders. For ages 4 and up. Wednesday July 24th at 11:00. Registration required. Program presented by the North Carolina Museum of Natural Science.

    Martial Arts for Kids – an introduction to Martial Arts presented by Macon’s Martial Arts Academy. Wednesday July 17th & 31st at 11:00 in the Storyroom.

    Build It / Game Day – on Tuesday July 2nd from 2:00 to 4:00 in the Storyroom.

    American Girl Series – featuring Caroline. A program built around the American Girls stories and dolls featuring music, stories, dancing and crafts. On Saturday July 20th at 1:30 in the storyroom. Registration is required.

    Big Bang Boom – rock and rock for kids. Chuck Folds and friends will get everyone dancing to the Hokey Pokey and other original tunes.  On Tuesday June 11th. The first program is at 11:00 at the Oakview Recreation Center. The second show will be in the library Storyroom at 6:30.

    The Almost Amazing Al – humor and magic from our friend Al. On Thursday June 13th . An 11:00 program at the Oakview Recreation Center and a 6:30 program in the library storyroom.

    Criss Cross Mangosauce – We are excited to have this group here for the first time this summer. Experience the bilingual music and stories on Monday June 17th at 11:00 and 6:30. Both programs will be in the library storyroom.

    Pint Size Polkas – another first for the High Point Public Library. Uncle Mike will bring his accordion to the library on Thursday June 20th – so be prepared to dance and sing. The shows are at 3:00 and 6:30 in the storyroom.

    Autumn Morningstar – Native American magic, music and stories are the feature of this wonderful performer. Come experience the fun on Thursday June 27th at 11:00, 3:00 and 6:30 in the storyroom.

    Didgeridoo Down Under – learn about and experience this unique aboriginal Australian instrument on Monday July 15th at 11:00 in the storyroom.

    Aussie Funk Jam Workshop – come learn how to play the didgeridoo in this beginners workshop. For ages 10 and up. On Monday July 15th at 6:30 in the storyroom. Registration is required.

    Activated Storybook Theatre – a fun children’s theater group that relies on audience participation and makes use of American Sign Language in their shows. On Thursday July 18th at 11:00 and 6:30 in the storyroom.

    Bob Tarter the Animal Guy --  Bob will be bringing some unusual animals that fit our summer theme – Dig Into Reading. On Monday July 22nd at 11:00 and 6:30 in the storyroom.

    Wild Goose Chase Theatre – a returning performer from last summer, this amazing shadow puppet program will be sure to entertain the whole family. On Thursday July 25th at 11:00 and 6:30 in the storyroom.

    Steel Drummer, Tracy Thornton – a summer favorite. Tracy will bring his danceable island music to the Oakview Recreation Center on Friday July 26th at 11:00.

    Mad Science – fun and science and things that might explode. Come enjoy the mad science experience on Monday July 29th at the Oakview Recreation Center. The program starts at 11:00.

    Flow Circus – juggling and magic and fun are the highlights of Flow Circus featuring Paul Miller. The programs are on Thursday August 1st at 11:00 at the Oakview Recreation Center and then again at 6:30 at in the library storyroom.

    Skill Toys Workshop for tweens and teens – Paul Miller of Flow Circus will share his knowledge of juggling and working with other skill toys. For kids 9 years old and up. On Thursday August 1st at 4:00 in the library storyroom. Registration is required.

    Snakes Alive! – Our most popular program. Come learn about snakes and get to hold one (or more) too. On Monday August 5th at 11:00 and 6:30 in the storyroom. Registration is required. Tickets will be available starting on Monday June 10th in the Children’s Room.

    Musician Charles Pettee – an original member of the Shady Grove Band, Charles Pettee will bring his mandolin, banjo and guitar to share some wonderful folk, bluegrass and Celtic music. One show only. On Wednesday August 7th at 2:00 in the storyroom.

    Balloon Lady Donna Pruitt – balloon twisting magic and storytelling on Thursday August 8th at 11:00 and 6:30 in the storyroom.

    Book Clubs and Contests

    The Dig in and Read Summer Book Club will begin on June 10th and end on August 10th. Kids can register for the book club and keep track of the time they read (or are read to) to earn trips to the treasure box and a chance to win some big prizes at the end of the summer.
